Choking You Became a Solution
2007
archival pigment based ink on Epson Enhanced Matte paper
45" x 45", 12" x 12"

(LEFT CLICK IMAGE TO ENLARGE) Text in image reads: "I locked myself in a room while you roamed the house screaming. Finally, you attacked the door with a kitchen knife. Choking you became a solution. At first, I only grabbed you by the throat, but the length of time quickly increased with each occasion. I seemed to be testing your level of endurance. The last time you collapsed. You started writhing on the floor and a slight foam came to your lips. I was extremely frightened that I had committed an irretrievable act."

45" x 45", 12" x 12"

(LEFT CLICK IMAGE TO ENLARGE) Text in image reads: "On one occasion, I opened the door. I remember it exactly: the key slid into the cylinder, I twisted my hand to the left, opened the door and you said; "Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh I want daddy to hold me, I want daddy to hold me, I want daddy to hold me." Then you went vomiting to the toilet, leaning over the bowl, calling for help. I asked, "How can I help you?" You replied, "Help me? Help me? Help me? You don't know how to help me?"

Everything S(he) Perceived, ver. 2
2006
archival pigment based ink on Epson Enhanced Matte paper
45" x 45", 12" x 12"

(LEFT CLICK IMAGE TO ENLARGE) Text in image reads: "Everything he perceived had a direct relationship with him. His senses were bombarded. He felt time and space so strongly. He watched the position of the sun slowly change in the sky. He felt the cloud move more quickly as it approached the sun. An airplane flew by, and each could be related to sizes that were distinct from their own reality. The sun appeared to be one inch in diameter, the cloud, one half an inch, the plane; two inches as it flew at a low altitude. Cars and buses sped by filled with people going to places that he wished he knew, obeying traffic rules that had no relation to the sky except what he wished to give. And there he stood, with parallel and perpendicular lines everywhere. There he stood, co-ordinating all of these thoughts with the intensity of one who knew that if he did not, all would fall apart."

I Had a Clear Thought, ver. 2
2007
archival pigment based ink on Epson Enhanced Matte paper
45" x 45", 12" x 12"

(LEFT CLICK IMAGE TO ENLARGE) Text in image reads: "I had a clear thought. I almost had a clear thought. It was staring at me, I saw it. I looked into its' eyes, they were so pure. I looked through them, they laughed, they disappeared. What a jumble, what a mess, I am haunted by pure thought. It appears as an object. I approach cautiously, circling. It doesn't move. It has no front, no back, tells me nothing. It sits there, waiting for me, waiting for the right moment. I look at it, no response, no change. I am overwhelmed, transfixed, and at the moment my expectations are excited, excited almost beyond control, beyond control; it changes, laughs, disappears. I wait for it to return, a clear thought. I can't stand the suspense. It will tell me what it is, stop laughing at me. I will wait for it, everything will become clear. I will grab ahold of it. I will wring its' neck. It will not leave of its' own accord. I will wring its' neck until it acknowledges me. I will not let it leave."

archival pigment based ink on Epson Enhanced Matte paper
45" x 45", 12" x 12"

(LEFT CLICK IMAGE TO ENLARGE) Text in image reads: "I followed you to the gate, then down the stairs to the train. It has been twenty-four years and I remain silent no longer. Your lips, yes your lips closed, parted, plain and red and your calves contracting with a sudden halt. Your instep rolling over slightly as you walk a rhythm that causes your breasts to curve neatly to your waist, to your hips, to your legs that move as I follow imperceptibly. I watch you closely. I feel your legs as they cross, your weight as you stand. I place myself in a position to receive your opened coat as it brushes against me, to invite your arm as it touches mine in a crowd. I do not miss an opportunity. Your arms at your sides, your hands in your lap are mine as are your thoughts that I control, develop. No moment passes in which I am not thinking of ways to become more intimate with you."

(LEFT CLICK IMAGE TO ENLARGE) Text in image reads: "He followed every movement and sound into the minutest detail. A stone scaled onto the water, touches and continues as often as the initial force and angle allow. An abrupt ending. Slicing below the surface, the stone, the starting point disappears; The action is transferred to the rippling, the little waves flatten until all is gone but the memory."

(LEFT CLICK IMAGE TO ENLARGE) Text in image reads: "It was under these conditions that we met again. The encounter was not a very eventful one. We were both in a hurry and walking in opposite directions. A heavy snowfall had just begun, his steps were large, and from across the street I noticed that his head was tilted slightly downward as if to protect his eyes. After we passed each other, I waited a few seconds before turning to watch him. As he walked he turned, saw me, waved his arm, continued, hesitated a moment, and then continued on until he rounded the corner. I thought of the moisture blurring his glasses despite his evasive effort, and wondered what impression I had left with him."

66" x 33", 18" x 9"

(LEFT CLICK IMAGE TO ENLARGE) Text in image reads: "Two eyes alone, these are two eyes alone. I'm saying this to convince myself. I don't know which one to believe, they follow no formula. Sometimes the right, sometimes the left, sometimes both of them lie, what to do, what to do. I open my eyes and they are closed. I open them and they separate, they overlap, they do not care. They see past, they see present. They won't let me know. I reach for an object and it is a memory, coming out empty handed. I see a choice, but one fades as I grasp it, the other disappears while I grasp, empty handed. I no longer grasp, I am wrong too many times. I watch them, they are both real until I grasp. I watch them, they are real."

(LEFT CLICK IMAGE TO ENLARGE) Text in image reads: "The sunlight rakes across the snow from the southwest. What had been six inches of cover several days earlier is now down to three, reduced by a string of warm days in an unusual February. As I gaze southeast towards New York City, I think past the Verrazano Narrows and proceed on to North Africa, resting briefly in Lisbon. Exhausted, I turn around, walk back inside the house, and wonder where I will go tomorrow."

(LEFT CLICK IMAGE TO ENLARGE) Text in image reads: "What kind of mind is this: that needs to define, that forever calculates distance and the passage of time; that places movements into rhythms within space, that constantly attempts to form patterns, to see relationships among objects in order to understand their differences, their similarities, especially when there is nothing to understand, no way to relate two entities?"

2007
archival pigment based ink on Epson Enhanced Matte paper
45" x 45", 12" x 12"

(LEFT CLICK IMAGE TO ENLARGE) Text as it appears in image: "I found myself avoiding places where we had previously met, drawing mental diagrams and time charts of areas in which I had seen him, sections where he had been known to frequent, and from these, deductions and projections of all the possible areas and functions in which we would have the slightest chance of meeting. I honed my movement and response until they expressed exactly what I wished. Every gesture was thought through and watched to the end. My body became a trained instrument of my mind, and even when emotions were allowed to flow, they did so with a sense of irony. I never left my apartment without first consulting the diagrams and charts, which were continually expanding. I began reacting to the ringing of the phone with hesitation. At night I would maintain minimal lighting, that I might appear to be either not in, or asleep. I had limited the opportunities for entrapment down to the minimum."
